Our Story

Southern Resource Partners was founded in 2013 as a response to post-recession borrowing needs. The SRP brand is a culmination of professionals bringing together over a century of combined experience in the real estate industry. The company delivers a unique approach to private money lending. With roots in residential loans for home builders, we understand the lending process from a builder/borrower’s perspective. Our goal in every partnership is to create a faster, more personalized borrowing experience than traditional banks. We make it a point to meet directly with every borrower, review the deal in-depth, and take a common sense approach to underwriting. As a direct private money lender, all approvals are done in-house. This allows us to meet quick-turnaround requirements and secure funding for borrowers in a timely manner – no matter the circumstances.

Private lender and co-founder of SRP Lending

Michael started his entrepreneurial journey in 1979, founding The Housing Group. Renowned for its craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail, The Housing Group built and sold over 4,000 houses within some of Atlanta’s most sought-after locations for various lifestyles and price ranges. The company provides well-designed homes inside beautiful communities. It was awarded 26 Obie Awards by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association for building and marketing excellence, as well as six Atlanta Agent Choice Awards, five Southern Crescent Awards and the Consumers Choice Award for Building Excellence.

In 2011, Ray began making hard money loans and formed SRP Lending in 2020 with the help of Gary Unell and Geoffrey Deckelbaum. SRP provides bridge loans, new home construction loans and time-sensitive real estate loans to funnel the purchase of non-owner-occupied residential properties.

Geoffrey has over two decades of experience in the real estate finance industry, including 12 years of real estate lending for a large financial institution and 10 years of hard money lending in the residential development and construction space. The experienced real estate lender has lived in the Atlanta area since 1994 and holds a degree in finance and marketing from Emory University.

Deckelbaum worked as an SVP at Bank of America, where he was responsible for originating and managing a portfolio of loans for residential developers and builders. While working at the financial institution, Deckelbaum originated over $2 billion in new loans and managed a portfolio of $500 million in outstanding balances with clients in Georgia, Florida, Texas, New Jersey and New York.

After leaving Bank of America, Deckelbaum became a private lender in Atlanta and, from 2011 to 2019, was a direct provider of private funding for real estate investment transactions. As a hard money lender, the company provided real estate debt for situations where traditional financing sources could not meet the borrower’s needs. Such situations include investment property acquisition, new home construction loans to experienced builders, commercial owner-occupied and non-owner-occupied properties, and small office, retail or industrial properties.
